Jan 15: Got out to explore!

Another beautiful sunny day and things were a little slow. Heard we will have a group of about 45 people coming in at sometime. Marjorie has a car and she asked if I wanted to go on the mission trail with her.

Since I’ve been working all shifts... I decided to take a break and only work one shift, so Marjorie and I went off to do the mission trail. Three missions, beautiful all against the blue sky.

It was just amazing! One mission was having a funeral with a very spirited band, all kinds of instruments, guitars, beautiful singing, and I ducked in for communion. The missions date back to 1600s; absolutely beautiful cloudless blue skies!

The sticks on ceilings are original to 1600s.

We decided to eat lunch at a recommended local restaurant called Cotton-Eyed Joe’s... cotton fields all over. Delicious rice and beans and guac (just smashed avocados). I was expecting something like Bryan’s delicious creation.. but...) Sitting near us, a whole table of border patrol police, OK, they are real people TOO!

We decided to go check out one of the detention centers where are our families have been held up for several days before we get them. It’s right near the airport. Which we decided made sense, but again walls and barriers all over the place, no way to see what’s inside..

Picked up Sister Phyllis and 2 other new volunteers working at a different site... we got laughing as we had 2 Jews and 3 Catholics... trying to work as Jesus, a Jew, would have!  Welcome to our peace of the world!

Back in time for next bus 44 people, about 1/2 under age of 12!  Lots of babes crying  loud... but what could we expect after being in cages for days.... the process begins again...

Joy on mom's face when her niña got a pair of new shoes.. almost tears as she hugged me; look what she was wearing... when I showed them to Patty at end of day, she said little niña shoes aren’t supposed to smell so bad...

Last family to get a room was a dad with little niña in a one-piece sleeper with soles of feet threadbare  .. no shoes...

Hope we have more niña and niño clothes for tomorrow... I will use some donation money thanks to Marge and Bob and Rita to pick up some mañana! Finalizing rooms and bus and flight arrangements with volunteer drivers to airport and bus stations, making sure food bags are packed for early departures... locking up for day... hugs to Nurse Patty (soul sister in past photo) and Denny (retired minister who landed in hospital with blood clot). Sad as team members leave... (they leave early to catch flight home after 2 weeks of service) after sharing this amazing experience and beautiful care of our brothers and sisters in Christ! All tucked in for the night!

Thankful for getting away to see area with Marjorie, but so good to come back and help feeling refreshed! So thankful ...
