Day 3: Gratitude

Day ? Jan 12....this quote says it all....

Giving frees us from the familiar territory of our own needs by opening our mind to the unexplained worlds occupied by the needs of others.
-- Barbara Bush

What a day ... kids arriving with no shoes-- 2 kids 4 and 5 but looking so much smaller... Brittany’s husband (she came down to volunteer before deployment) went to store to bring back a variety of sizes of shoes (thanks to Bob and Rita for donation), and you should have seen the look on their faces as they tried them on with new socks...

Today I worked in clothing room, and room arrangements and taking folks to room ... no keys so have to instruct them on how to work lock so door is open by day with bar and can lock at night.. but I notice most leave open...

2 new groups to serve delicious food... only one bus of 45 as other bus never arrived...

Clothing a challenge as it has to go around this.
An ankle plastic/ metal tight band ... can’t get socks under or pants over unless they are wide leg or we cut! Itches maybe because of... you name it. Not sure when these come off as it’s a Trump adventure!

Going nonstop it seems... one of the sister's advice was to take breaks and your day off each week... I need to work on that... 5 sisters heading to Mexico on Sunday, one volunteer in hospital with blood clot, wife with him, 2 others going home. So Allen and I figure tomorrow it might be just us! And it’s my day off... Sr Phyllis found out she will be assigned to Mesa House on Tuesday... yahoo! She will be a breath of fresh air! So it will be very interesting to see how God's plan unfolds for tomorrow!

We had a family of 3 getting a flight out at 1:30 am Sunday am .. Brittany taking them to airport 11:00 pm, then she leaves for home after volunteering a week... great problem solver and a linguist with the Navy! She will be missed... Allen made a trip to bus station with several folks many times today and has a family of 2 to get flight at 3:30 am on Sunday am... Patty (husband still in hospital but improving) and I shut things down at 8:30 pm... locked up what we were able... giving thanks for being here and being able to hug so many dear people, excited but nervous as they venture on a flight or a three-day bus ride depending on what sponsors can afford... (Also sponsor has to sign paper that for 10 years the persons they sponsor will receive no government aid... What a commitment!) Bags of food and water, blessings, hugs, and muchas gracias gracias are shared as they leave... another wonderfully exhausting day sharing God’s light!

What a blessing to be part of this wonderful hands-on mission! Cheers for Annunciation House!!!
